Free Wills Month Cardiff 2026: How It Works and Your Options - My Local Will Writer

Free Wills Month Cardiff 2026 is running throughout October, and the campaign is live now. If you’re 55 or over, you can have a simple will written free of charge by a local solicitor. Appointments fill fast and the month is already under way. Here’s what you need to know about how the scheme works in Cardiff, and what to do if it doesn’t fit your situation.

How Free Wills Month works in Cardiff

Cardiff is a confirmed October 2026 participating area. To find solicitors near you, use the postcode search on freewillsmonth.org.uk. The campaign is live and firms are listed now. Contact a participating firm directly, letting them know you’re enquiring about the scheme.

Coverage across Cardiff’s postcodes isn’t uniform. The north and west of the city tend to be better served than the east. CF14 (Whitchurch, Rhiwbina, Llanishen), CF11 (Pontcanna, Canton) and CF5 typically have more participating firms. If your immediate postcode comes up short, try neighbouring ones before concluding there’s nothing available.

Most appointments are face-to-face, although some firms offer remote options, so it’s worth asking when you call.

Cardiff is also the natural starting point for anyone searching for Free Wills Month in Wales this October. If you’re in Newport, Penarth, Barry or the Vale of Glamorgan, CF postcode firms are likely your nearest participating option. Check your own postcode first on freewillsmonth.org.uk, but don’t limit yourself to it. For more detail on how the scheme works nationally, read our guide to Free Wills Month 2026.

The age requirement and other rules to know

Free Wills Month is open to anyone aged 55 or over. For couples, only one partner needs to meet the age threshold. Both of you can have wills written under the scheme.

There are some other limitations to be aware of. The scheme is designed for simple wills. Complex estates, discretionary trusts, business assets and overseas property are generally outside scope. Ultimately, the solicitor will determine whether your will can be completed under Free Wills Month. That decision sometimes only becomes clear at the appointment itself, not before you book.

If you’re under 55, or your estate is more involved than the scheme allows, making a will in Cardiff doesn’t have to wait for a campaign.

Will there be enough appointments in Cardiff?

Cardiff is Wales’s largest city, and demand for Free Wills Month slots here is genuine. Age UK Cardiff actively promotes the scheme locally, which is a reliable sign that awareness is established and competition for slots is real.

Slots at the start of the campaign go fastest. If you haven’t booked yet and October is already under way, check availability now rather than assuming space remains.

The number of participating firms varies year to year, and coverage won’t be even across all postcodes. CF14, CF11 and CF5 are typically the strongest areas. If your nearest postcode comes up empty, try adjacent ones before giving up.

This is particularly worth bearing in mind if you’re searching across Cardiff and the surrounding area. People in Newport, Penarth, Barry or the Vale of Glamorgan will find Cardiff-area firms are almost certainly the nearest option. Use freewillsmonth.org.uk with both your own postcode and Cardiff CF postcodes to see the full picture. You can also use Free Wills Month near me to widen your search.
